The officers and board members are responsible for the day to day operation of the Kalamazoo Astronomical Society.  Most have been on the Board for several years and are very dedicated to the KAS and the local community.  If you have any questions about the KAS then review the officer positions and biographies and contact us today!


President

Jack Price


As President, Jack serves as the official representative of the KAS and presides at all general and board meetings.

Jack has been a member since 1996 and has previously served as Vice President and a Member-At-Large.  He's also a Boy Scout leader and a member of several local amateur ham radio clubs (KA8AOB).

Vice President

Richard Bell


Richard has been a member of the KAS since 1994.  He is the senior member of the Board, having served terms as Editor/Secretary (1996-2001), President (2002-2007), and a Member-At-Large (2008-2009).

Richard is also the Webmaster for KAS Online, Editor-in-Chief of Prime Focus, and serves on multiple committees.

Treasurer

Rich Mather


Rich has served as Treasurer since 2003 and as a Member-At-Large in 2001 and 2002.  Rich was instrumental in getting our finances in order when we applied for non-profit status.

Rich is also heavily involved in science clubs for children and is a computer programmer with Pfizer.

Secretary/ALCOR

Roger Williams


In addition to Secretary, Roger serves as the Astronomical League Correspondent (ALCOR).  Contact him with any questions on A.L. observing clubs or benefits. Submit completed observing programs to him.

Roger is also our resident CCD imaging expert.  Not only has he made some amazing images, but he also measures variable stars and tracks comets and asteroids.

Members-At-Large

Jean DeMott


Jean joined the KAS in 1997 and has served several terms as an at-large board member and as Vice President in 2005.

Her activities include: refreshment and Holiday Party coordinator, co-chair for Astronomy Day, and founding the Land Acquisition Fund with money raised during 4 seasons of her Perpetual Plant Sale.



Jason Hanflik


Jason is serving his first term as a Member-At-Large, but has helped with Astronomy Day and numerous observing sessions. Jason became interested in astronomy as a result of his high school science teacher, Michael Zusack.

Jason is currently an MBA student at WMU and loves to show people the planets and talking with people about the universe and astronomy.



Dick Gillespie


Dick has been a KAS member since 2003 and is serving his fifth term as an at-large board member. He has helped with Astronomy Day and several public observing sessions.

He is a retired Information Technology Consultant and enjoys building and computerizing Dobsonian telescopes.

Don Stilwell


Don joined the KAS in 2005 and is serving his first term with the Board. Primarily a visual observer, its no surprise Don likes to support the KAS Public Viewings.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Don is a graduate of NC State U. Michigan has been home for the last 20 years.  Don has worked for Kellogg and Hayes-Albion Foundry.  Being a Boy Scout leader and now Kiwanis keeps him going.
